What to expect throughout the year
Kigali sits at an altitude of approximately 1,567 metres above sea level, giving it a pleasantly mild climate year-round — far cooler than most equatorial African cities. Rather than four distinct seasons, Kigali follows two rainy and two dry seasons. The dry seasons are the most comfortable for training and city exploration.

Navigating the city
Kigali is a compact, hilly city that is straightforward to navigate. Ride-hailing services and motorcycle taxis are the primary modes of transport. The city's small scale means most training venues, hotels, and attractions are within a short ride of one another

Taxis & ride-hailing
Uber, Yango, and SafeMotos operate in Kigali and are the most practical options for delegates. Metered taxis are available at major hotels and the airport. Ride-hailing is strongly recommended as the most convenient and reliable option for navigating the city.
Airport connections
Kigali International Airport (KGL) is approximately 8 kilometres from the city centre — a journey of around 15–20 minutes by taxi or Uber. The airport is compact, modern, and efficiently managed, making arrivals and departures a straightforward experience.
Motorcycle taxis
(Motos)
Motorcycle taxis — known locally as motos — are a widely used and affordable means of short-distance transport. All registered moto drivers wear distinctive helmets and carry a spare for passengers. A practical option for solo travellers navigating the city's hilly terrain.
Minibus taxis
Minibus taxis (matatus) operate on fixed routes throughout Kigali and to regional destinations. An affordable option for delegates comfortable with local transport. For most international visitors, ride-hailing services offer a more straightforward experience
Car hire
Available at the airport and from local operators in the city centre. Recommended for delegates visiting Volcanoes National Park, Lake Kivu, or Nyungwe Forest independently. An international driving permit is recommended alongside a valid national licence.

Currency
Rwandan Franc (RWF). Card payments are accepted at major hotels, supermarkets, and established restaurants. Carrying cash is advisable for markets, smaller establishments, and moto fares. ATMs are available at the airport and throughout the city centre.

CAT (UTC+2) year-round. Kigali keeps the same time as Nairobi, Kampala, and Cape Town. It is 1 hour behind Riyadh, 2 hours behind Dubai, and 2 hours ahead of London in winter.

​Type C and J plugs (two round pins), 230V / 50Hz. Delegates from most of Africa and Europe will find their adaptors compatible. GCC and Asian delegates will require a European-style adaptor. Available at Kigali Airport and major supermarkets
Halal Dining
Kigali has a growing Muslim community and a number of halal-certified restaurants, particularly in the Nyamirambo neighbourhood. Arabic and international halal options are increasingly available near major hotels. Most hotel restaurants can accommodate halal dietary requirements on request.
Places of Worship
Kigali has numerous mosques throughout the city, including the Grand Mosque of Kigali in Nyamirambo. A Qibla direction indicator is available on request at most international hotels. Muslim delegates are advised that the Muslim Pro app provides accurate prayer times and Qibla direction worldwide. Christian delegates are exceptionally well served — Rwanda is a predominantly Christian country with churches of every denomination found throughout Kigali.
