Cathedral
The largest ancient castle complex in the world — Prague Castle dominates the city from its hilltop position above the Vltava River. St Vitus Cathedral within the castle is one of the finest Gothic buildings in Central Europe, housing the Bohemian Crown Jewels.
Charles Bridge
Prague's most celebrated landmark — a 14th-century stone bridge decorated with 30 Baroque statues of saints, connecting the Old Town to the Lesser Town across the Vltava River. Most atmospheric at dawn before the crowds arrive.

GETTING AROUND
Navigating the city
Mauritius is a small island — approximately 65 kilometres from north to south — making it straightforward to navigate by taxi, ride-hailing, or hire car. Port Louis itself is compact and walkable in its central districts, whilst most training venues and attractions are within 30-60 minutes of the capital by road.

Taxis & ride-hailing
Licensed taxis are available at the airport, major hotels, and throughout Port Louis. Uber operates in Mauritius and is the most practical option for reliable, fixed-price transport. Negotiating a fixed fare with licensed taxis before departure is advisable for longer island journeys.
Airport connections
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) is approximately 45-55 kilometres from Port Louis — a journey of approximately 45-60 minutes by taxi or Uber. The airport is modern and well-organised. Private transfer services are available from all major hotels.
Metro Express
Mauritius's Metro Express light rail connects Port Louis to Rose Hill, Quatre Bornes, Vacoas, and Curepipe in the central districts. A practical and affordable option for delegates staying in central plateau towns. Runs approximately 06:00 to 22:00 daily.
Car hire
Widely available at the airport and from operators throughout the island. Strongly recommended for delegates wishing to explore Mauritius independently — the compact size makes self-drive highly practical. Driving is on the left-hand side of the road. An international driving permit is recommended.
Walking in Port Louis
The central area — the Waterfront, Central Market, Place d'Armes, and the Caudan Arts Centre — is compact and pleasant to walk during the cooler morning and evening hours. During midday heat, taxis and Uber are recommended for journeys of more than a few minutes.

Mauritian Rupee (MUR). Card payments are widely accepted at major hotels, supermarkets, and established restaurants. Carrying a modest amount of cash is advisable for markets, smaller establishments, and taxis. ATMs are available at the airport, major banks and throughout Port Louis city centre.

MUT (UTC+4) year-round. Port Louis is 1 hour ahead of Riyadh, on the same time as Dubai, 1 hour ahead of Nairobi, and 4 hours ahead of London in winter.

Type G plug (three rectangular pins — same as the United Kingdom), 230V / 50Hz. Delegates from the UK will find their plugs fully compatible. GCC and most Asian delegates will require a UK-style adaptor. Available at the airport and throughout Port Louis.
Halal Dining
Mauritius has a significant Muslim community and an excellent halal food scene throughout Port Louis and across the island. Halal-certified restaurants spanning Mauritian, Indian, Arabic, and international cuisine are widely available near the Waterfront, Central Market, and most major training hotels.
Places of Worship
Mauritius is a genuinely multi-faith nation — mosques, Hindu temples, Catholic and Protestant churches, and Buddhist pagodas are found throughout Port Louis, often within walking distance of each other. The Jummah Mosque in Port Louis is one of the most significant in the Indian Ocean region. A Qibla direction indicator is available on request at most international hotels. Muslim delegates are advised that the Muslim Pro app provides accurate prayer times and Qibla direction worldwide.
Language
English is the official language of government and business in Mauritius. French is widely spoken in daily life and commerce. Mauritian Creole is the most common informal language.
